TWO MINUTE TALK – Trish Giddens is standing for election to the Hawkes Bay District Health Board. Trish talked about her reasons for standing including the changes she sees as necessary, the state of health in Hawkes Bay, to be a local voice for Central Hawkes Bay, resourcing and retaining staff, problems at A and E, support for nurse practitioners and a closer working relationships between the primary and secondary health sectors to mention a few.
Trish wants to take her skills and knowledge she has gained from working in the sector to the board table.
SPEAKER Niall McCormack – Eye Care for Africa
Niall works as an optometrist at Spec-Savers. Originally from Liverpool, a graduate from Manchester University, he moved to Hawkes Bay in 2003.
He has done voluntary work in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and is now involved with the Eye Care for Africa and has volunteered in Uganda, Tanzania Rwanda and Kenya. He spoke about the work he has been involved with making a difference for the children in an orphanage in Uganda.
On his last visit, he sponsored a year 12 pupil from Havelock North High school to help him.
His charity is a registered charity ‘Eye Care for Africa. website

Your duty may involve the use of equipment; you must put it away at the end of the meeting.

ANNIVERSARIES 1 – 7 October
On Saturday David Smith and Grant attended the Rotary Learning and Information Graduate programme in Taupo. The three Rotary Learning and Information Programme trainers took them through a range of topics covering communication, evaluating Rotary Clubs and future scenarios for the organisation.
Grant said “It was an enjoyable day with lots of interaction from the participants, all of whom had previously completed the Rotary Learning and Information Programme”.
Country2Coast Beneficiaries – Mike Konig put forward proposals for members’ preferences for beneficiaries for next year’s Country2Coast to be held on 1 March 2020.
The idea to have two beneficiaries next year was floated and five possible organisations are to be considered. A separate email will be sent to all members with details about the organisations and will ask members to vote on their preferred organisations.
Remember our meeting next week is Loud Shirt Day and members are asked to wear a loud shirt and be generous with their fines as these will be donated to the cause.
Charlie Fergus has planted vegetable plants donated by Green Door in the Lusk Trust garden. Charlie would like some help with some garden maintenance if you can spare the time.
The team of Lucknow School boys we helped sponsor to America for the technology challenge won their section. They were invited to visit Parliament last week and met MP Grant Robertson.
