NEXT MEETING 19 AUGUST – Bill Ralston – ex-TV producer/presenter
ATTENDANCE 22 incl. Peter and Mary Maxwell and guest Sue Ford
SERGEANT’S SESSION raised $54.80
TWO MINUTE TALK – Brin Haward
Brin compared Bobby and Ice (his imaginary childhood friends from age 3 to 5) to his current conscience, he added having a thought and choosing not to voice it is called restraint, something Donald Trump does not have.
SPEAKER District Governor Peter Maxwell
Peter compared Rotary to an iceberg, most of the community only see a small part of what Rotary is. We should be telling non-Rotarians the benefits of Rotary. Where are we today? Rotary is the most financially sound, largest networking service organisation in the world, whose flag is recognised more than any other flag in the world.
Charity Navigator rates Rotary as the number one charity in terms of transparency and efficiency, scoring us 100/100 points compared to Save the Children 85 points, Unicef 83 points and Oxfam 83 points. Peter then spoke about this years theme “Rotary Connects the World.”
Mary Maxwell spoke about the Rural Support Trust, the charity Mary and Peter have chosen to support this year.
Peter encouraged members to attend the 2020 conference in Rotorua.
