NEXT MEETING 18 NOVEMBER – Rotary AGM
ATTENDANCE: 25 including guest speaker Helen McNamara
SERGEANT’S SESSION: $40.40
TWO MINUTE TALK – Dale Prebble
Dale told the yarn about a letter a son wrote to his father saying he was eloping to live with an older woman who had all the vices. He said he was 15 and could take care of himself. At the end of the letter, a PS explained that he wrote the letter to make the point that there are things worse than his school report he was about to read.
SPEAKER Helen McNamara – The Cook and Grow Project
As a child, Helen fell in love with food and cooking. She moved back to Hawkes Bay 5 years ago to head up her Cook & Grow Project.
The project helps to teach basic home cooking and gardening skills.
Her project helps all ages to prepare and cook basic healthy meals. She does this through the Colenso Teen Parent unit where she is helping teens to feed their baby with good food.
She holds community cooking classes at the Salvation Amy, running six Friday classes per term where everything they cook is made from scratch.
And she runs School Holiday Programmes for 8-13-year-olds where the children make multiple dishes and shared lunches and have samples to take home.
Helen is being mentored for business skills by Janet Wilson and she plans to set up a bus that would be one third Food Truck and two-thirds cooking equipment to run a mobile kitchen.
She does look to groups like Rotary, Lions and schools to help with funds to sponsor a child in the programme or with equipment like laptop and mobile kitchen equipment.

2 December – Dr John Beaumont Ophthalmologist
9 December – Rotary Christmas function

Dale Prebble is wanting more books for the Free Library and for someone to take over monitoring it.
Scott Henderson informed members that past member Neville Norwell passed away last week. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
Results for the week (2 selling days) was 91 books & $992 banked. Sales continue to be behind target of 51 books per selling day.
To date we have sold 49% (566 books) & banked $6,080. This compares to selling 56% of books & banking $7,036.To ensure we sell all the books members will need to support the selling program & possibly look to sell books to their friends.
We need to ensure that all selling times are covered, using “Friends” as needed.
