APRIL IS MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH MONTH

ATTENDANCE – 30 including guest speaker Richard Jeffery and prospective new member Grant Miller.
TWO MINUTE TALK – Colin Wake spoke about his concerns regarding the loss of good horticulture land to urban growth. He drew on examples of land in Pukekohe where growers are being ring-fenced by housing developments. Here in Hastings we need to preserve fertile soils in Frimley, Howard Street and Te Aute Road being used for housing. We need to value and protect our soils that can be used to grow fruit and vegetables.
GUEST SPEAKER – Richard Jeffery
Richard spoke about applying thematic and operational design in event venues. Richard, is co director of a civic development trust called Second Nature Charitable Trust responsible for the development and building of the Vodafone Events Centre and White Water Course on time and within budget in Manukau, South Auckland.
INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBER.
New member Grant Miller was introduced by David Schnell and inducted by Colin Wake. President John Pollard welcomed Grant. Grant will have the classification as fuels distribution commercial and will be on the Community and Project Committee. Welcome Grant and Julie.

Please note these arrangements: If you are rostered on for a duty but find you are unavailable it is your responsibility to arrange a replacement for yourself. Once this is done, email Stephen Randal at firstname.lastname@example.org and advise him of the change. Note: most duties require attendance at 5.30pm. Your duty may involve the use of equipment; you must put it away at the end of the meeting.

Scott Henderson reported that Frank Cooper is coming on well but is still unable to drive so would welcome the odd lift. If anyone can help out contact Frank direct.
Peter Reed reported that we have $2600 donated to date to the Rotary Foundation. Let Peter know this week if you would like to donate.
District Training Assembly in Taupo on 4 May. Members have been sent information about this and President John would welcome members to join him in Taupo for the weekend.
Dale Prebble spoke about members reading with children at Mayfair School. More volunteers are needed, if you can help contact Peter Reed.
